For some unknown reason it has taken almost a year for me to
see the Merlion! Shocking, I know. About eight months ago I went into the bay
with the intention of seeing this lovable character and he was sadly under
repair. Last week I finally got to
meet this guy in person. It may not seem like an exciting time for some, but my
anticipation and inner tourist was in full swing.
From Raffles City MRT it is quite simple to walk to the
Merlion. It took me about ten minutes. The walk is incredibly scenic, which assists
in diminishing the presence of heat. You can get a wonderful panoramic view of
the entirety of the bay including some of Singapore’s most iconic sites; the ArtScience Museum, Marina Bay Sands and the Flyer. This
area is one of my favourites in Singapore; quite simply for the architecture. It
really is breathtaking.
I was incredibly surprised at how busy it was at the viewing
platform, especially as there was a storm that morning. Perhaps many shared
similar excitement levels to myself.
If you are in Singapore and have some free time on your
hands, you should definitely consider a visit to the Merlion! He is overlooking
one of the most beautiful areas in Singapore. There are also plenty of shopping
areas and restaurants walking distance from the bay, which make this area convenient
for people of all ages.
